Playing with the octopus

Well, tonight Momma and I had a very pleasant surprise when Andrew was put into his pack and play (we still have the bassinet attachment in there so he is raised up right under the changing table). He normally needs someone to stand there and entertain him and play with him nearly always in sight (or else he feels baby abandoned!), but tonight after about 30-45 minutes of playing with him he was able to settlt down enough that when we went out of sight he was reaching up and playing with the multicolored octopus that we have hanging from the changing table into his bassinet!

Mom had gone into the other room for a bit and was working on the computer and it was just Andrew in the bassinet and Daddy putting together an activity table that we think he is nearly ready for when Daddy realized that he was being quiet while in the bassinet (usually a sign he is sleeping).

After I stood up and say him just slowly reaching for the stuffed animals on the "tentacles" and trying to pull it towards him I was so happy. Usually he gets very upset with the octopus for not playing fairly (he considers anything that doesn't willing go into his mouth to suck on not playing fairly) but this time was differant. He was just sitting touching the little animals on the ends and not trying to grab at them.

Once Momma finished up and came into the room to see our genius son playing with the toy in the pack and play she knew that this could only mean that it was the first quiet play that he has had without talking or yelling at the toy! Oh happy day!

So after getting a little of Andrew quietly playing with his octopus on tape we were shocked back into reality once Andrew decided that quiet play time was over and that he would try to get that pesky stuffed fish into his mouth! Which as everyone knows when you try to stuff a fish in your mouth to suck on you absolutely must tell the fish what you are going to do and then increase your insistance that he go in your baby mouth!

It was magic while it lasted.

Look forward to another update when we try out the new activity center for Andrew, and hpefully a few more pictures.
