Last night Andrew still did well for the night, but not quick his perfect night like the past two.
He went down again at 8pm last night but he did get up around 2am and then again around 4:30a. I was able to comfort him and settle him back down in just short of an hour, but he pulled a new trick to get Daddy feeling like he needed a little more love during the night.
This time when Daddy went in to comfort him he had his face up against the slats in his crib with his binky between them so that he could see when I came in. Once I came in (he has mastered crying while still holding in his binky) he spit it out and let out an even better notice that he was not a happy baby...
I of course melted and over the next hour in my sleep stupor he got me a few other times with his tricks to make Daddy feel like he just needed to sweep him up and just give him a big hug and rock him in my lap (though I resisted with great reserve).
He would cry while laying on his stomach with his bottom thrust up in the air and wait for Daddy to come over after he got a little too upset and needed a few pats and some strokes. Once Daddy would reach in and give him some reassuring rubs on his back and then he would reach his little arm back so that he could feel my hand and arm on him. It's so hard to not just sweep him up when he sits there once settling down and he runs his fingers through the hair on my arm.
But even through all that he was able to settle back down and finally make it to around 4a or so for Momma to come to the rescue and feed him so that he could get back to sleep. Some day we will use a bottle or two to make sure that he can settle down without Momma there to assist. It will be a good exercise to rehearse for when Momma goes away for her trip to CA in December.
He is our little buddy and he is doing better than I imagined with his new found ability to sleep on his own.
Love,
Daddy
