Welcome to Stony Bottom WV

While on our way to Angela's family reunion in Pipestem WV last week we took a detour past a place Daddy used to go to when he was a little child with his Grandparents, family and cousins.

The two words Stony Bottom means a lot to anyone in my family. From great memories of fishing on the Greenbrier river, learning how to operate a pump for a well to get our water, to walking the inactive rail tracks to find railroad spikes or learning from your father how to safely and properly shoot a rifle.

Those are some of the things that I remember fondly as well as many other great times, wonderful stories, and many laughs that go with all of the nights in the bunk beds with my sister and cousins.

So I had to take Andrew and Angela back to this wonderful memory even though it has been nearly two decades since I have been back and since then, the hunting lodge that we used to spend summers at had since burned to the ground and been rebuilt.

It used to have beautiful big pine trees in the front, a huge tree to the side with our well next to it and a great open back yard that led to the river behind the house.

Now, many years and a rebuilt house later, the pines are now gone with the fire. The well is gone with only the cement marker and hole remaining from the well, and the large tree on the side of the house is now just a stump. But the memories are still great and it is amazing to see how the area has since developed... Not much!

This is the first picture of Daddy and Andrew returning to this very happy place...

It is a REALLY REALLY mountainous and trecherous turn route from any direction, so it was a challenge to get to, but once there we were able to ask around and find right where I wanted to find!
