Day three with the bike trailer and three days of fun with Andrew.
We took out the trailer on it's inaugural ride on Friday for just short of 4 miles so that we could see how Andrew liked it. He really took to it and when I would look back he would be just sitting in his little cockpit with a smile on his face or waving to the people we would pass along the trail.
He especially liked barking at the puppy dogs that we saw around the lake. Woof Woof!
Day two with the trailer actually was in Mike's trailer with Lindsay along side. It was Mike who showed us the trailer first and Andrew really liked it so it was only natural that the four of us would go out on Saturday morning and go for a 6 mile ride with our two little ones in tow and Mike and I riding along with them. They were too cute in the back with their little helmets on just chatting away to each other and waving to people as we passed.
Then we rode to get some bagels for the mommies for breakfast. We finally started getting a little tired of the trailer within the last block (Lindsay was asking us to go slower, and Andrew started to tug at his helmet strap... So we were all set after our 7 miles in the trailer to go inside for a little breakfast of blueberries and some milk, yum!
Ride number three this morning with Andrew at the park totalled another 7 miles and we had fun. Daddy is getting better at riding again, and Andrew is a great little passenger. We brought along two toys (the rattling bee, and his noisy hammer) along with a cup of milk and really enjoyed the ride. He and I looked at each other with our helmets on and had fun tapping heads together when we were getting into the trailer, Andrew would drop his head and head butt my helmet and then lok up and giggle. It was too cute... Such a stinker!
Lots of doggies and people to look at as we went around the trail. This time Daddy stepped on the gas a little more and Andrew took it all in stride. After two laps (about 3 miles) we stopped and put on some sun glasses so that we could look cool and keep the wind out of our eyes which we started giggling at when we started going again. The fun part is going over a bumpy part where Andrew is a little late on the timing, but right after we go over a few bumps we go "Ahhhhhhhh...." so that we can hear ourselves sound funny with the bumps.
We ended the ride with a stop at the playground where we ran all over following a bigger boy who did all sorts of fun things that Andrew would have liked to do like run and jump over the tires, and hang from the board above the slide. Some day we will be that big boy and at that time Daddy will not be able to keep up with him so easily!
Not bad for our first weekend, we will have to see what we can do about getting out some if Daddy gets home earlier in the evenings so that we can keep up the good riding. Andrew enjoyed it and I was able to get in 20 miles with him in the trailer this weekend, so I think that we could have a good new past time together.
I only wish we could just take a ride right out of the driveway instead of having to pack up and go someplace, but with the big truck it isn't too bad to get everything in there and get going in under 5 minutes once it was all ready after the first time.
